When 1-Piece MOQ Applies (and When It Doesn't)
As an apparel manufacturer with in-house production lines and stocked blank fabrics, SILAMON offers genuine low-MOQ manufacturing — but it is important to understand which products qualify for 1-piece orders and which carry real minimums.
Key distinction: Only our in-stock blank-base garments (existing solid colors we already carry) qualify for 1-piece orders — this is the foundation of our POD (Print-on-Demand) model, where you pick from ready-made base apparel and add your design via digital print. However, if you require custom blank-base garments (custom fabric composition, custom color not in our stock, or custom brand trims such as labels/tags/packaging), that falls under small-batch OEM with a minimum of ~100–200 pieces per solid color.
Three MOQ Models at a Glance
- Model A — POD Print-on-Demand (1 pc possible): Pick from our in-stock blank-base garments (solid-color tees, hoodies, sweatshirts, joggers in colors we already carry). Your design is applied via digital print (DTG/DTF) with no screen setup. Ideal for product testing, sample orders, and launching a brand with zero inventory risk. Note: custom fabric or non-stock colors are not available at 1-piece level — see Model B.
- Model B — Small-Batch OEM (~100–200 pcs per solid color): You need custom blank-base garments (specific fabric weight/composition, colors outside our stock range, or branded trims like custom labels and packaging). These require a production run because fabric must be sourced or dyed to your spec. Pricing is between POD and bulk OEM. Typical for emerging brands ready for their first real production run.
- Model C — Custom-Decorated Bulk (real minimums by process): Your artwork goes onto garments via screen printing, embroidery, heat transfer, sublimation or other decoration craft. Each method has its own minimum run size due to setup costs (screens, digitizing films, ink mixing, machine calibration). Small-batch production is available — but single-piece is only possible through digital methods (DTG/DTF) under Model A.
MOQ by Product Type & Decoration Method
The table below shows starting MOQ for each category and process. Key principle: in-stock blank-base garments (our existing solid-color stock, no custom fabric/color) support 1-piece orders via digital print (DTG/DTF). Custom blank-base (your specified fabric or color) starts at ~100–200 pcs per solid color. Traditional decoration methods (screen print, embroidery, sublimation) have higher minimums due to setup costs. Unit price decreases as quantity increases — 100 pcs, 500 pcs and 1,000+ pcs each have different price tiers.
| Category / Process | Starting MOQ | Price Tier Note | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-Stock Blank T-Shirts (our existing solid colors, digital print) | 1 pc | Sample price; 100+ pcs for better unit cost | Fit testing, POD reselling, brand launch, zero-inventory startup |
| Custom Blank-Base (your fabric/color/spec not in stock) | ~100–200 pcs per color | 100 / 500 / 1000+ pcs each have different unit prices | Emerging brands, first production run, private label |
| In-Stock Blank Hoodies & Sweatshirts (solid color) | 1 pc sample; 100 pc for bulk pricing | Same tiered structure as T-shirts | Brand line, uniform, streetwear collection |
| In-Stock Blank Joggers & Shorts | 1 pc | Sample price; bulk discount from 100 pcs | Coordinate sets, sample sets |
| DTG / DTF Digital Print (on our in-stock blanks) | 1 pc | Designed for testing; 50+ pcs for viable margins | Full-color small batch, complex art, on-demand |
| Screen Print (on apparel) | ~100 pcs per color | Setup-heavy: unit price drops sharply at 300+ pcs | Brand launches, team orders, event merch |
| Embroidery (flat / 3D puff) | ~100 pcs | Digitizing is fixed cost; 200+ pcs to amortize well | Logo branding, premium positioning, polos & caps |
| Heat Transfer / DTF Film | 1 pc | Good for small runs; screen print cheaper above 200 pcs | Small batches, photo-realistic prints, dark fabrics |
| Sublimation (polyester only) | ~100 pcs | Specialized paper/ink setup; economy at 300+ pcs | All-over print, sportswear, polyester tees |
Sample vs Bulk: How a Clothing Manufacturer Scales
Your first step with any apparel manufacturer is almost always a sample order — typically 1 pc for blank-base, or the method minimum for decorated pieces. Once you approve the sample (fit, fabric hand-feel, print quality, stitch work), production scales to bulk with no re-setup cost. This is the advantage of working with a vertically integrated clothing factory: sampling and bulk happen on the same lines.
Key point: Unit price follows a clear tiered structure: 1–10 pcs (sample/test pricing), ~50–100 pcs (small-batch premium), ~200–500 pcs (volume discount kicks in), and 1000+ pcs (best bulk rate). The exact per-piece price depends on garment type, fabric, and decoration process — contact us with your target quantity and retail price, and we will recommend the optimal order tier for your brand.
How to Start Your Clothing Brand with Low MOQ
- Pick your base garments from our blank-base stock (T-shirts, hoodies, joggers) — 1 pc each to evaluate fabric, weight and fit before committing.
- Send artwork plus tech pack specs (fabric, color palette, size run, decoration method) — or use our inquiry form for a custom apparel quote.
- We return a detailed quote and a sampling plan (5–7 days; longer for styles with special processes).
- Approve the sample (photo proof or physical) and confirm bulk quantity — for POD orders, any quantity works; for custom blank-base or process orders, ~100–200 pcs per solid color is a typical starting point, with clear price tiers at 500 and 1000+ pcs.
- Production and delivery: 7-day turnaround for confirmed repeat orders; 10–15 days for new custom production runs. Worldwide shipping available.

Common MOQ Questions from Apparel Buyers
- Can I really order 1 piece of a custom-printed T-shirt? Yes — but with an important distinction. If you use our in-stock blank-base garments (solid colors we already carry) with digital print (DTG or DTF), 1 piece is possible — this is our POD model, ideal for testing. However, if you need custom fabric, custom colors outside our stock range, or traditional processes like screen print and embroidery, those have real minimums (~100–200 pcs per color for custom blanks; ~100 pcs per color for screen print/embroidery) due to setup and sourcing costs.
- What is the smallest batch for embroidery? Around 100 pieces per design. The digitizing (converting artwork to stitch file) is the fixed cost that dictates this floor.
- Do you offer mixed-size runs? Yes. One MOQ unit can be split across sizes (e.g., 100 pcs = S-2XL breakdown). This is standard practice for apparel manufacturers serving global brands.
- Can I reorder later at the same unit price? Repeat orders within 3 months typically lock in the same pricing. Beyond that, material costs may shift but we always honor returning customers.
