What a Tech Pack Is (and Why It Matters)
A tech pack is the master specification a factory uses to cut, sew and finish your garment. A clear pack removes guessing, prevents rework, and is the basis of an accurate quote and a consistent bulk run.
Treat the tech pack as a contract of intent. Every detail you omit becomes a factory assumption — often not the one you wanted.
Core Tech Pack Components
- Flat sketch (front and back) with callouts.
- Measurement spec sheet with tolerance.
- Bill of materials: fabric, weight, trims, labels.
- Colorways and Pantone or TPX references.
- Artwork placement for print or embroidery.
- Construction and stitch notes.
- Packaging and hangtag instructions.

Missing any of these four is the most common cause of sample rejection and delay.
Common Tech Pack Mistakes
- Relying on a photo alone with no measurements.
- Mixing pixel-based art where vector is required.
- Specifying a color without a standard reference.
- Forgetting branded trims and their lead time.
